Library Borrowing Policy
1. Purpose
This policy outlines the terms and conditions for borrowing books from the library, including general reference, special collections, and rare materials.
2. Eligibility for Borrowing
- Silliman University Community: All member of Silliman University Community with validate ID.
- Visitors/Non-Members: Non-members may access materials for in-library use only, and borrowing is restricted to members.
3. Borrowing Categories
The library materials are divided into three categories:

4. Borrowing Terms
4.1 General Collection
- Loan Period: 14 days, renewal is allowed if not reserved.
- Maximum Items: Up to 10 books may be borrowed simultaneously.
- Renewals: Books can be renewed online, in person, or via phone unless reserved by another patron.
- Overdue Fines: Php 2.00 per day per item, with a maximum fine of Php 10,000.00.
4.2 Special Collections
Books that are part of the Special Collections (e.g., local history, archival materials, or limited editions) have stricter borrowing terms.
- Library Use: Items are marked for library use only, base on their condition or rarity. Maximum hours of use in 8 hours.
- Overnight Use: Overnight may be considered for selected special collections.
- Overdue Fines: Php2.00 per hou per item, with a maximum fine of Php10,000.00
4.3 Rare Collections
Books in the Rare Collections are unique, fragile, or irreplaceable. Due to their value, special handling is required.
- Loan Period: Intened for library use only. Borrowing is not permitted unless approved by library management under specific circumstances.
- Special Permissions: Any request for external borrowing must be made in writing and approved by the librarian may be required.
- Handling Requirements: Rare books must be handled carefully.
- Photocopying/Scanning: Only available upon request and subject to approval to prevent damage.
5. Fines and Penalties
- Borrowers with overdue items from any category will have their borrowing privileges suspended until all fines are paid and materials are returned.
- Lost or damaged items will result in replacement costs or repair fees determined by the library, including a processing fee.
6. Returns
- General Collection: Books must be returned in person at circulation counter or library service point.
- Special and Rare Collections: Must be returned in person to the section counter.
7. Reservations and Holds
- General Collection: Books can be reserved online or in person. Borrowers will be notified via email or phone when the item becomes available.
- Special and Rare Collections: Reservations must be made in person, and availability will be determined by the library staff.
8. Handling and Care
- All library materials must be treated with care. Damage to books, especially those from Special or Rare Collections, may result in fees or loss of borrowing privileges.
9. Policy Updates
- The library reserves the right to modify borrowing terms based on the availability and condition of the collection.
